Homework Blog #4
Well, I watched toe video on Plickers, and thought I'd give it a go in my Second Grade Class. It was less than successful, and my class had a very difficult time using the cards. I don't know if the percentage of Ell Children in my class contributed to the frustration, but the majority had a difficult time implementing their cards.
What I have been using successfully, is Show Me! I give the children a problem to work on independently and record their work. At the end of the day, I listen to the recording, and watch the video. It's fantastic! The kids get it, and manipulate it easily. Right now they are working on attributes of various polygons. It's been a great tool for this unit.

Homework Blog #3
Homework Blog Post #3
I think I'm an iPad person, and would use them best to teach with. I would like to use them for small group instruction, so a set of 6 would be ideal.
Activities i would like to use my iPads for would be for math. I would like to use the Show Me App, so the students can work collaboratively with each other. The children love to come up and show what they know, rather than just listening to me.
I would also like to use them during my reading interventions. At this time, I only have access to iPads for 15min a day.
My personal opinion is that iPads are more user friendly for the age I teach, and the apps I currently use, and those I'm trying to incorporate.

Blogging
Do you see yourself blogging?
What are the advantages?
What are the hangups
How is a blog different from a website?
What could a blog replace in your classroom?
Yes, I see myself blogging. I think it would be a great way to show parents what's happening in our class on a daily basis. I would like to put photos on the blog of the children's art and daily work.
Some advantages are that hopefully, parents will have dialogue together on the blog. Also, communicating their thoughts with me, on what is being shared.
I think a blog is different from a website , because a blog is more collaborative, personal, and I can update it more frequently. The collaborative comes, I hope, when my readers share their thoughts with me , and other parents.
Some of the hangups will be my own lack of experience, and I know I have some parent/students, that do not have access to technology at home. I would like to see my blog replacing so many newsletters!

My Response to Prensky...
My most recent showcase of my Digital Immigrant Accent, would be at the Apple Store, trying to fix my phone. My lack of experience was quickly revealed , when I had to repeatedly enter my password for security. The twenty something "expert" , with a slight tone of exasperation, asked me why I wasn't using my Finger Scan. I had no idea what he was speaking of, and my accent came through stronger than a Texas Drawl. However, we found some common ground, and I now use my thumb, rather than numerically entering it each time. It's sooo cool!
Pensky's argument, that I, a Digital Immigrant, struggle to teach the new generation, is somewhat valid in my class. Because, though from a different time, I have slowly adapted to new approaches, based on an understanding of how my students are changing. That said, in reading the article, I had no idea what "modding" was nor what an avatar was. I now know how the movie got it's name. Also, sometimes when using technology in the classroom, a few of my tech savvy students often become the teacher, and I the student. It's great for their self esteem, though hard on mine at times. However, it's also a great way to show that one must always learn, that even the teacher never stops learning!
As educators, some of the problems we face in using technology in the classroom are children going to inappropriate sights. I also worry about students being off task while using technology in class, it's more difficult for me to monitor and manage.

Blog Response
I would like to blog, if I can figure out technology.
The advantage would be to better communicate with parents.
The possible hangups are my lack of skills.
A blog is different from a website, because you can update more easily and often. Also, a blog is interactive with parents.
It could replace monthly newsletter.
